How to organize it

A competitor that shifts from “project management for teams” to “work operating system for enterprises” is making a deliberate bet about where their growth will come from. 3. Product changes. Feature launches, product sunsets, API changes, integration announcements. Track funding rounds, investor identities (they reveal strategic direction), post-funding interviews (founders get candid about plans), and any available revenue estimates. Also track the absence of funding. A competitor that hasn't raised in 18 months may be profitable, struggling, or quietly for sale.
6. Partnerships and ecosystem moves. Who a company partners with tells you who they're trying to sell to and how they see their role in the technology stack. A competitor integrating deeply with Salesforce is making a bet about their buyer persona. A competitor building an open API and a marketplace is making a platform play. These ecosystem decisions are slow to execute and expensive to reverse, which makes them particularly reliable signals of long-term intent.
Monitoring is passive. Analysis is active. You need both.

Some need monitoring over the next few weeks before you act. Some are background context that updates your mental model but doesn't change your plan. A word on who should own this:
At seed stage, this is the founder's job. Nobody else has enough context about strategy to connect competitive signals to decisions. At Series A and beyond, you can delegate the monitoring (steps 1 and 2) to someone on the team, but the analysis (steps 3 and 4) should stay close to whoever is making the strategic decisions. The value of competitive analysis comes from the connection between external signals and internal priorities. Only someone who deeply understands both can make that connection well.
Turning competitive intelligence into actual decisions.

Before your next weekly review, write down specific conditions that would change a current decision. “If Competitor X drops pricing below $50/seat, we accelerate our annual plan discount.” “If any competitor hires more than three enterprise reps in a month, we revisit our upmarket timeline.” These pre-committed triggers remove the ambiguity that causes most competitive intelligence to stall in the “interesting but I'm not sure what to do about it” zone.
Route intelligence to the right people at the right time. A competitive pricing change needs to reach your sales team before their next call, not in a monthly report. A competitor's product launch needs to reach your product team during sprint planning, not after the sprint is committed. A funding announcement needs to reach your leadership before the board meeting, not during it. The value of competitive intelligence degrades rapidly with time.
